I like how in both the first one and the second one they made the villain strong but not macho. Really like how Rani's Character brings down the villain. level 1 Some of Rani’s dialogue showed that the filmmakers don’t have much faith in the audience. She would basically reword things that people just said (such as when she was talking to the doctor). Felt like there was a lot of “telling” being done through her dialogue when there could have been “showing. ” I think she acted well though. On the plus side: Vishal Jethwa absolutely killed this performance. Man, was this guy good!! Would definitely recommend watching this movie, if only for Jethwa’s performance. level 1 Will watch both, 1& 2. Was planning to watch Shokara today but reviews have disappointed me. level 2 I saw shikara its a waste of time level 1 Found it to be very chilling. I had goosebumps for some of the more graphic scenes. Vishal was just amazing! He portrayed the character with great intensity, depth and was simply amazing. His character, too, was really interesting in terms of the back story. The psychologist in me was dying to know more about it. Apart from that, Rani was awesome as she was in the previous Mardaani. I loved that they called out some of the cultural BS about women, gender rights and equality. level 1 Overall, I loved the movie. It had great characters, a compelling plot, and a great overarching theme. At the same time, I wish it were a little less over the top. The villain is near genius, somehow outsmarting the entire police force with very few resources. I feel like the message of the movie would been served better if the situations it depicted were more grounded. level 1 Thought the film was nice, Vishal did a good job but nothing extraordinary as I've heard some people say. Overall it's a good watch and worth watching. level 1 Didn't like 2 as much as 1. Though Jethwa was good, the movie itself could have been better made. level 1 Watched it last night, really one of the bests. The villain was reminding me of Joker from the dark knight. Never ever I have hated a fictional character like that. Rani is definitely one of the bests we have. But saying this the best thing about this movie is that it does not preach about feminism but shows it and it is really so sad to see how women are treated in this country. High time for women to find Durga inside their beautiful souls. level 2 I felt like the interview scene was kinda preachy, not necessarily in terms of its content, but because it didn’t contribute much to the rest of the movie. It also broke up the pacing of the movie in a way that felt jarring.

By invading this space, Gopi Puthran’s film is warning viewers that it cares little for their comfort, and will use the issue of sexual assault in as direct a manner as possible to suit its purposes. She sweeps the area, issues orders and leaves, but the camera lingers, making a lurid swoop and zooming in on the mutilated body of the girl. At the heart of Mardaani (2014) was the cat-and-mouse dynamic between Tahir Raj Bhasin’s child trafficker and Mukerji’s blunt, brilliant cop. There’s an attempt to replicate that here, with Vishal Jethwa playing an even younger antagonist. His serial rapist and killer-for-hire, Sunny, is scarily efficient but almost unwatchably monstrous. But we have to watch – Sunny gets almost as much screen-time as Shivani. It’s Raman Raghav 2. 0 all over again, only set in a moral universe and with a message attached. Puthran, who wrote Mardaani and has written and directed the sequel, uses another device to unsettle viewers. At several points in the film, Sunny winks at the audience and even addresses the camera. It’s a baldly effective strategy, establishing a direct connection between the madman on screen and us. But it makes no sense: there’s nothing else that aligns with Sunny’s breaking of the fourth wall. The film isn’t formally inventive or playful or trying to make the audience question its expectations, like Michael Haneke’s Funny Games. The only purpose is to creep you out, which it does successfully, though it’s ironic that a film about assault gets its point across by invading the viewer’s space. Through the film, we see a variety of men talk down to Shivani, from her superior officer to a local politician. Towards the end, she gives an impassioned speech on TV about the plight of women (it leaves one character in tears). The hollowness of this scene becomes clearer when you compare it to Soni, Ivan Ayr’s 2018 film about two female cops trying to do their job in an alternately patronizing and violent patriarchal setup. The protagonists of Soni are competent but also fallible and stretched to the limit; they fail, recover and battle on. Mukerji, faced with far bigger problems, is calm, inspiring, authoritative, serene smile on her face at all times: less woman, more message. This movie left me speechless. What a fantastic film this was! Each and every moment of this film was worth my money. This movie showcases the hard hitting reality that a lot of people don't want to acknowledge. The safety of women is truly a matter of concern in India as well as everywhere else in the world.
The director Gopi Puthran did a wonderful job. Hats off to him! Not a single song or unnecessary scene. I felt like I was watching a Hollywood film. I kid you not! The movie is fast paced and high on intensity.
Coming to peformances, Rani Mukherji was amazing as usual. She did a wonderful job as the tough and no nonsense cop! The highlight of this film was the psychotic villain portrayed by Vishal Jethwa. Man I have no words for him. All I can say is that this young man has a very bright future ahead. His performance was beyond amazing. The screenplay and dialogues were amazing as well.
Overall this movie is awesome in every sense and it's also one of the rare sequels which is better than its predecessor. A very well made film which tackles an alarming concern. I strongly recommend this film to all who love reality based crime thrillers.

A serious/action movie staring a female is rare, only Rani, Kangana and KaiKai Menon could carry it off, but in this film I cannot imagine any other actress doing it better.
Rani was very tough and she made the story believable.
I really hope Rani get recognized for the role she played. The suspense and thriller was absolutely incredible in this film as well.
